Top 4 Misconceptions about Underfloor Heating

Throughout more than 20 years of continuous development and use – at first just in Norway, but soon taking our place in the heating market throughout Europe – we have constantly invested in technological research to make EPWarmfloor as energy-efficient, easy-to-install, comfortable, safe & economical as possible. However, there are many common misconceptions about underfloor heating.

“It’s too expensive!”

For many people, the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about underfloor heating is the cost. EP Warmfloor is incredibly energy economic with measured savings of more than 60-75% compared to conventional UK heating. EP Warmfloor achieves huge savings by running on low levels of energy at constant temperatures. Its ability to self-regulate ensures that minimum power is consumed at all times.

“It’s unsafe!”

All items within the EP Warmfloor system are fully EC approved where required. European regulations specify that only electrical item above 50 volts AC (or 75 volts DC) require certification. At 24 volts therefore, it can be seen that EP Warmfloor is not even half of that qualifying value and is therefore super safe for children, pets or any animal, even in wet room areas. Building and furniture materials of today can contain many chemical ingredients. High temperature heat sources can release these as toxic fumes into the room space. EP Warmfloor’s self-regulating temperature control ensures that the surface temperature of the floor areas are only 25-26 deg celcius which will not trigger any heat related emissions.

“It’s not environmentally friendly!”

Polyethylene is an environmentally friendly plastic that will give no toxic fumes and is sunlight degradable. It can be recycled and used for other purposes albeit the life span of the mat is projected at 50+ years. All materials used in the EP system are either water based products or are harmless to human beings or the environment.

“Radiators are more efficient!”

EP Warmfloor can be used as a total heating source with sufficient capacity to heat single rooms or a full house. EP Warmfloor generates between 50 & 70 watts / sq.mtr. but radiators require double the wattage rating for the same size room. Different types of heating sources have variable energy efficiencies. Smaller heating surfaces, such as a radiators, need higher temperatures than bigger areas (such as Warmfloor) to obtain the same result. The higher the temperature of the delivery system, the less energy efficient it is. EP Warmfloor’s energy is used directly as a heating source and is therefore is the most efficient and effective method.
